Redmi 1S update - JHCMIBL50.0

This update JHCMIBL50.0 was released sometime around early February 2015. Users reported that there is improvement in performance but poorer battery life, which kind of make sense.

As for Malaysian users, unfortunately the +60 problem still persist in the SMS app. I wonder if the devs are even doing their job and this problem is still not solved update after update.

As for my Redmi 1S, it is still on version 43. Still waiting patiently for official MIUI V6 that is based on KitKat.

Redmi 1S - JHCMIBH45.0 update released, OTA

Another update for the Redmi 1S JHCMIBH45.0 is on OTA after the release of JHCMIBH43.0 less than two weeks ago. There is only a single description in the changelog, which is 'improved security of Cloud Messaging'. It is not known what other changes are done under the hood, which is typical of Xiaomi's update changelogs.

Xiaomi devs have implemented some kind of thermal control and aggressive throttling of the CPU when it reaches a certain temperature. UI is not as responsive, and games aren't as smooth as it used to be. Battery life seems to be worse than previous versions.

Limit background processes

There seem to be an additional option in the 'Settings > Battery'  section. Where you can 'limit background processes'. There is no information about how many background processes are allowed when you enable this feature. This same feature can be accessed in the 'Settings > Developer options' section. Scroll down to the bottom and choose 'Background process limit'.

Here you can select:

- Standard limit
- No background processes
- At most, 1 processes
- At most, 2 processes
- At most, 3 processes
- At most, 4 processes

*Update (13/10/2014) : Previously this version was released to selective Indian users OTA. It is now released for the rest of the users.

*Update (14/10/2014) : New changelog up on the official forums. Now Xiaomi has decided to release more items in the changelog. Fickle or not I don't know.

Redmi 1S - JHCMIBH43.0 update released

Xiaomi released another update for the Redmi 1S version JHCMIBH43.0 today. The difference between JHCMIBH43.0 and the previous JHCMIBH41.1 in the changelog is the addition of unified Mi Cloud settings page in Mi Account. The rest of the changelog are identical.

JHCMIBH43.0 uses zRAM to improve it's RAM management as well. It will use more CPU power for the compression process, so we will see if would affect battery power. Will post up screenshots later.

My own experience

Overall battery consumption has definitely increased on this version because of the zRAM implementation. Multi-tasking is not a problem anymore. And the phone seems to heat up less and noticeable when playing games. Apps and UI is not as snappy compared to version 37.

Redmi 1S - JHCCNBH41.1 released on OTA and ROM available for download

Xiaomi released another update for the Redmi 1S (China version) which is JHCCNBH41.1  .

Redmi 1S - JHCMIBH41.1 released on OTA

An update JHCMIBH41.1 for the global version is on OTA today. Some of the apps mentioned in the changelog were Messaging app, File Explorer, E-mail app and Calendar. The update is about 215MB in size and will take awhile for the update to finish compared to previous versions. Indian users who are still on version 36 will get a 500+MB update, and it's perfectly normal.

Users who did not get the notification, can goto Updater App>press Options capacitive button>View available updates>press Update.

If you can't see 'available updates', then you might want to manually update from v36 to v37. Some users have reported that they are not receiving OTA even on non-rooted v37. So in that case, you'll just have to wait. 

Bad News! The previous link I got from the MIUI forums was allegedly a leak by a India Redmi 1S Testing Group member. I will put up the link again, once the Mods give confirmation.

Xiaomi has added a scanner app in this update as well. Another most important feature of this update is the use of zRAM. In short, Zram basically compresses unused apps within the system RAM so it makes more available space.

Redmi 1S - A new update JHCCNBH40.0 Chinese version is out

A new update JHCCNBH40.0 Chinese version is out on OTA today. No change log is released yet. But users have reported that the 'CRT' effect when turning off the screen is gone. RAM management seems to be the same as v37.

Redmi 1S - Calibration of your phone sensors

While I was playing GT Racing 2 on my Redmi 1S, I noticed the car was swerving slowly to the left even when I hold it straight. So I decided to re-calibrate the accelerometer and gyro sensors.

Goto your dialpad and type *#*#6484#*#*

You can also type *#*#64663#*#*  to access Engineering mode.

As you can see the menu is still in Mandrin (Chinese). Scroll down to 29 and 31 to calibrate sensors.

*Update: Good news, Prince.Paul.K on the MIUI forums has done a translation to English on this. You'll need to download the apk prepared by him and push it to the system/apps folder. Follow this link.

Redmi 1S - Global ROM JHCMIBF37.0 is available now

Redmi 1S Global ROM JHCMIBF37.0 is available for download now here. I'm sure many Redmi 1S users would be very happy because of the external SDcard saving feature option in this update. It is not on OTA yet, so if you don't want to wait, download the Full ROM and update your phone.

Automatically save photos and videos to external SDcard

Goto settings ( left picture is simple mode, right picture is advanced mode). 

Enable 'Priority saved to external SD card'. In video mode, just repeat the steps above.

Redmi 1S - Update version JHCCNBF37.0 is out

A new update for Redmi 1S (China) is out. JHCCNBF37.0 full ROM can be downloaded from here. Finally, the feature to automatically save your music,photos and videos to the external SDcard is possible in this version. It took them quite awhile to offer it to users.

The Global version (JHCMIBF37.0) is not updated yet, but we will see it soon enough.

Redmi 1S - Sensitive buttons and reboots

Grabbing and holding the Redmi 1S can be tricky and to a point, annoying due to it's sensitive volume and power buttons. And especially when taking in and out of a pocket or bag. I have experienced multiple phone reboots and power off from accidental touches. Some users also accidently went into 'Fastboot' mode. There are two solutions to this problem.

Protective cover

First solution, buy a protective/flip cover that will prevent accidental button touches. Best to just head over to a mobile phone accessories shop to try on a cover before you buy. The Xiaomi soft silicone case(TPU) does not work.

Button settings

Second solution is to disable your power button when lockscreen is activated and enable 'Prevent Pocket Dials' option. These settings are available in the Redmi Note as well. Here's how.

First setting : Goto > Settings

Under 'Device' section, goto > Buttons

Enable 'Disable Power button menu'. The switch will turn orange when the option is enabled. Let's now proceed to the next setting.

Second setting : Goto > Settings > Display

Enable 'Prevent Pocket Dials' option. The switch will turn orange when activated.

Hopefully that will solve the mysterious reboots and fastboot mode problem for you.

Redmi 1S - JHCMIBF36.0 is on OTA

Redmi 1S new update JHCMIBF36.0 is on OTA but full ROM is not available yet for download. There were some confusion that the Redmi 1S has the feature to automatically save photos and videos directly to the external sdcard. This was probably due to a blunder made by a Mod/admin on the Taiwan MIUI facebook. So, there is no such feature yet in this update.

Changes should be the same as the China WCDMA version released earlier.

Fastboot ROM(India) v34 was available for download previously, it seems like that link is taken down on the official site. If you need it, go to this MIUI India fansite. The Indian Fastboot ROM has flipkart and other additional languages compared to Malaysia/Singapore ROMs.

*Latest update: Good news for Redmi 1S users, it is rumored that the next update version will have an option to automatically save photos and videos to the external sdcard.

Redmi 1S - JHCCNBF36.0 version released

JHCCNBF36.0 ( for  Redmi 1S-WCDMA/CDMA China ) version is now available on OTA and download. Changelog was posted by an administrator on the MIUI forums. Supposedly fixed - phone app do not response in some circumstances and optimized folder display height when it is opened.

JHCMIBF36.0 is not on OTA or download yet.

Redmi 1S - Getting delayed Whatsapp messages

Not getting Whatsapp messages almost instantly? Or phone will only get notification 15 minutes later? Whatsapp push notification not working? The problem that is causing this is most likely a cleaner app that is installed on your phone. Any cleaner that have the ability to clear Whatsapp from memory. In this case, it's MIUI's built-in cleaner app.

Solution? Open Whatsapp and go back to homescreen. Access the 'recent apps tray' by pressing the 'Options' capacitive touch button for a second or more. Now, there should be a little red lock sign near the top of Whatsapp icon. If there is no lock sign on the Whatsapp icon, simply swipe the icon down and it will be locked in memory. Enjoy your almost instant Whatsapp messages.

Redmi 1S 4G/LTE will be available soon - China

Xiaomi has announced that the new Redmi 1S 4G/LTE version will be available soon in China. Here are some of the specification of the Redmi 1S LTE.

The new Redmi 1S LTE has a Mediatek MTK MT6582 Quad-core 1.3 GHz CPU, Mali 400 GPU, single SIM slot, 2200mAh battery and other specs are almost identical to the Redmi 1S 3G.

Redmi 1S - Google apps that keeps reinstalling

Having Google apps that keep coming back to haunt you even after uninstalling them? Getting that optimizing apps appearing on every restart? I had that problem when I got the version 29 onwards with my Redmi 1S. My solution is easy without getting your hands dirty with installing 3rd party Recovery softwares. Here's how.

First, open up Google Play store and find the Google apps that you want to uninstall. Make sure you update all the Google apps. After that, reboot the phone.

Now, uninstall all Google apps through Google Play store (goto 'My apps') that you don't need. Reboot your phone and voila! No more creepy apps.

Steps summarized:

1. Find and update all Google apps.
2. Reboot phone.
3. Uninstall all Google apps(via Google Play store) you don't need.
4. Reboot phone.

*It's also important to take note that I have disabled 'Automatic restore' under Settings>Backup & reset>Automatic restore 'turned off'.

Redmi 1S - New update JHCMIBF35.0

Redmi 1S received another update today, JHCMIBF35.0 right after a day JHCMIBF34.0 was released.

Changelog shows there is a fix for some apps icons that supposedly didn't appear after updating. I did not have this issue though. Someone on a forum did mentioned that the stock browser icon was missing. Not sure what other fixes were done under the hood.

There are some noticeable improvements like much smoother UI, better RAM management and better battery life compared to the previous Global version 29.

The Redmi 1S gets an update today which is JHCMIBF34.0. The global version skipped two versions, version 31 and 33.
