Asus Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL) - Introduction

Just got the Asus Zenfone Selfie from an online store (Lazada Malaysia) for RM836( approximately 200USD ). I'd say it has pretty good specification for the price.

Let's take a look at the specifications.

CPU and GPU

In the heart of the Zenfone Selfie is a Snapdragon 615 SoC or so it seems. Qualcomm's website shows that the Zenfone Selfie uses the newer Snapdragon 616. On the other hand, Asus official websites state that Snapdragon 615 is being used. The screenshot below shows that the phone is clocked at 1.5GHz and 1.11GHz on low power cores.

RAM

3GB RAM is plenty and more than sufficient for most Android tasks. After uninstalling(or disabling) some Google and Asus apps, I was able to get around 1.5 to 1.6 GB of free RAM. Fortunately, Asus gave the option to disable most of it's pre-installed apps.

Camera

I'm quite pleased with the image quality results on both the rear and front facing camera. Will add more information and post up some image samples soon.

Sandisk Ultra : Dual USB Drive 3.0

Just got this Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive 3.0 from the computer store last week for some file transfer purpose. The extra micro USB connector on this flash drive comes in handy when I need to transfer file to or from a tablet/smartphone. This is convenient because I don't need an extra USB cable/OTG cable to do it.

The only downside to this flash drive is the iffy sliding mechanism. Push the flash drive too hard, it slides back in.

Philips Hair Clipper HC3420

Got this Philips Hair Clipper sometime early last month for cheap. Since I like short hairstyles, trimming and cutting my own hair is not hard. This hairclipper trims my hair quite evenly with minimal passes so I'm happy with it.

Redmi 1S - MIUI V6 based on KitKat update is postponed

Redmi 1S - MIUI V6 based on KitKat update is postponed according to a Mi India rep on facebook. Fans and users of Redmi 1S who are waiting for this update will be disappointed with the delay again. Will Xiaomi keep it's promise at the end of April 2015? We shall see. :]

Redmi 1S update - JHCMIBL50.0

This update JHCMIBL50.0 was released sometime around early February 2015. Users reported that there is improvement in performance but poorer battery life, which kind of make sense.

As for Malaysian users, unfortunately the +60 problem still persist in the SMS app. I wonder if the devs are even doing their job and this problem is still not solved update after update.

As for my Redmi 1S, it is still on version 43. Still waiting patiently for official MIUI V6 that is based on KitKat.

JHCCNBL47.0 update is available for download for Redmi 1S WCDMA ( China ROM ). China ROM seems to have two latest updates so far, whereas the global version is still stuck at version 45.
