Sony Xperia V Firmware 9.2.A.2.5 version

A new firmware is out for the Sony Xperia V version 9.2.A.2.5. This update is available right now on Sony PC Companion software but no sign of it on the Update Center ( on the phone ).

As usual there were no release notes or what bug fixes the developers have done with the phone. But the phone feels snappier than before, memory usage is lower and camera with superior auto mode seems to have improved abit ( just my thought, I could be wrong ).

Sony Xperia V new update 9.2.A.1.210 released

Sony has released a new update 9.2.A.1.210 for the Sony Xperia V. Looks like Sony is gradually rolling out the new firmware. This is the second update to the disastrous introduction of 4.3 Android on the Xperia V. Both the 9.2.A.0.295 and 9.2.A.1.199 firmwares, created major problems for alot of Xperia V users.

Some users even resorted to rooting the phone and reverted back to the previous firmware (9.1.A.1.140) or Android 4.1.2 which is proven to be stable and gave little problems. I'd prefer a problem free phone with less features or options that is the 4.1.2 version, to be frank.

Let's see if Sony can make amends for the disastrous updates before it.

So far only two region got the update; Baltic and Nordic region.

*An update: Hong Kong seems to have the update as well according to Xperia Update Checker Tool by Macmol from the Xda forums.

*Update ( 18 April 2014 ): 9.2.A.1.210 firmware rolled out to many regions and countries. There is no word from Sony on what bugs were fixed. Video recording still has the 'ticking' bug when camera is re-focusing. Camera Superior-auto mode is still at 9MP. Volume bar bug when a custom theme is used has been fixed.

Sony Xperia V 4.3 Android - Camera App

Sony released the 4.3 Android update for the Sony Xperia V about a month ago. It is a downgrade of the camera app and a buggy one that's for sure. Let's take a look at the new camera user interface.

Camera in Auto-Superior mode view

Camera settings in Auto-Superior mode

Some of the available settings in Auto-Superior mode are Self-timer, Smile Shutter, Preview ( after taking a shot ), Burst with longpress and Flash setting. Interestingly, Sony made the 'Burst with longpress' option available only in Auto-Superior mode. The first image of the 'burst shot' is saved in the normal folder. Remaining shots are saved in another folder. For example : Computer>Xperia V>Internal storage>DCIM>XPERIA>BURST>20140415224143738 , you will know where to look just in case you need to transfer those photos to another device.

More camera settings in Auto-Superior mode

The camera app shoots at 9MP instead of the usual 12MP in Auto-Superior mode. And to add salt to the wound, most photos taken has a slight bluish tint in them.

Changing between various modes. Additional camera addons like Timeshift and AR effect will be placed here too.

More content will be added to this post. Stay tuned.
